Scootering around Koh Samui

Turns out a tropical storm hit Thailand just after we left and all transportation to the mainland was shut down. Freaky, because I remember telling Johan on our last day it felt like there was a shift in the weather and something was up. Luckily Koh Samui appeared to have been spared the brunt of the storm, according to CNN this morning.

Made me think back on our fantastic scooter tour around the island on Christmas Day! We just drove aimlessly around the whole day, seeing everything from gigantic resorts to the small sheds next to waste piles where some locals lived. Huge contrasts, but still charming somehow. Took some time to get used to the crazy driving though, in addition to driving on the other side of the road, but we managed to scooter around for 7-8 hours, so I would say we did good.

We saw everything from jungle to beaches, animals and local markets to Starbucks and shopping malls. Also took a little stop at the local supermarket to check out their food (you know me) and for lunch we ended up around the Thong Krut Bay area, at a little restaurant on the beach, where I ate what turned out to be the best fried rice with veggies in my life.

On our way home we completely missed our exit and ended up driving around 45 minutes the wrong direction, suddenly ending up where we had been earlier in the day. But it didn’t matter, seeing as we were in no rush and the feeling of soaking up another place, another culture this way, was so much fun!

Definitely going in the memory book as one of our best days!
