More honesty please

Yesterday I came home from work, collapsed on the sofa while enjoying my favorite food: chocolate. All the while scrolling through Instagram. Which made me post the following:

“I’m on my couch, stuffing my face with chocolate, all the while scrolling through a world of perfect bodies, a world of social lives and fancy jobs, a world full of fun and social activities. And I can’t help but feel like a failure. Lazy. Undisciplined. Friendless. Even though I know I AM NOT! Pretty fucked up, right? Wish we all could be a bit more human on Instagram sometimes. Because unicorns are tired too, right?”

And the comments I got in return made me so damn happy. And sad. Because why do we only portray that one very shiny part of our lives (myself included) all the time? I would LOVE to see an image of your Ben&Jerry ice cream for lunch, or that you eat dessert in bed. Or that you skip the gym to watch Netflix. More honesty, more reality!

Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean I dont wanna see pictures from the gym, or tons of green smoothies or other fun stuff. I just miss the balance sometimes. Because the truth is that the majority of Instagram users filter their lives (again, myself included, even though I try to change that).

Not really sure where I am going with this blog post other than that life has two sides, ups and downs, high and lows, and maybe it is about time we create a more balanced feed.

Lots of love from Henriette Sophia
